In January 2016 I traveled to Ecuador to join the nonprofit Land is Life (landislife.org) for their organizational summit as well as the ensuing visits of Andes Quechua and Amazon Saryaku communities. New friends and insights into dramatic developing international stories made the travels great fun and deeply educational. While we were there, the Ecuadorian government approved a permit for Chinese oil companies to explore for oil in the last truly unspoiled part of the Ecuadorian Amazon -- in the Saryaku and Sapara people's land -- without their approval. The struggle to stop that oil exploration is only beginning. Visit landislife.org and amazonwatch.org for more information. I've posted these photos in sequential order as I shot them on the trip and have filled in a lot of stories through text. Please peruse, read the text along with the photos and enjoy!
